Little History

 

Hope Africa University is an institution of Higher Education, established by the Free Methodist Church, on February 6th 2000 in Nairobi, Kenya. In December 2003, it relocated to Bujumbura, the capital city of Burundi and opened doors on February 2nd 2004. HAU Headquarters are actually located in Ngagara, Quartier 2, and No 173. It opened new branch, Mweya Campus at Gitega, the Center of Burundi, in February 2012.

What Is HAU?

 

HAU as an institution of academic training is registered by the Burundian government under the ministry order no 610/1379 of 26th September 2003, with the authorization No 610/1113 of 16th August 2005 setting on the equivalence of the degrees delivered by HAU.

At a Glance

 

The idea of establishing a university by free Methodist churches in Africa and especially the Methodist Free Churches of the Central African region has emerged in the years grew 1980.


Free Methodist leaders Church realized that it was necessary to train the youth of the Church and society in order to contribute to the establishment of competent leadership Although Free Methodist Church led several higher education institutions in America, it was not possible to form many Africans.


On felt a great need to have a higher education institution in Africa to train hundreds of young people in theology and other academic fields and professionals.


By the 1980s and early 1990s, the entire region of the Great Lakes was in trouble. Burundians fled to neighboring countries. Later, the Congolese followed the same path from exile to neighboring countries.


The Rwanda was not spared. Milliard citizens of these three countries were in a moving situation this unfortunate discouraged the Free Methodist Church to achieve its objective of establishing a university.


For several years since, the whole idea of The University was suspended.

To transform students for character development and service through professional and academic programs, for the purpose of glorifying God and serving humanity. HAU promotes an education which is oriented on the wholeness of living. It teaches science with the purpose of improving lifestyles and glorifying God. HAU is committed to provide higher education in both liberal arts and professions.
